How To Make Money On The Stock Market

If you've ever watched stocks go up one day and down the next, you've probably wondered how to make money on the stock market. The stock market can be risky in the short term, but you can make money on the stock market if you invest wisely and patiently.

  1. Invest in many different stocks. Holding several different stocks keeps the risk down on your investment and increases your chances of making money on the stock market. You can buy a wide range of stocks yourself, or you can invest in an index fund that allows you to own a sample of stocks.
  2. Don't try to find a miracle stock. It's unlikely that you'll find the one stock that's about to go way up and that nobody else knows about. Miracles don't happen all that often. Counting on making money from one particular undervalued stock is not a safe way to invest. It probably won't help you make money on the stock market.
  3. Resist the temptation to pull your money out when the stock market goes down. If you sell out when the market's low, you'll always lose money on your stocks. Keep your money where it is when you see stock prices fall. Better yet, don't watch the day-to-day roller coaster ride of the stock market.
  4. Wait for your investment to pay off over a long period of time. In order to make money on the stock market, you have to be patient. Good investors buy stocks to finance their retirement or other goals in the future. Don't expect a great return on your investment in the stock market to appear this week or this month.
