How To Make Nacho Cheese With Cheddar

To make nacho cheese with cheddar, you will need:

  • Butter
  • Milk
  • Corn starch
  • Shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Cream cheese
  • Chili powder
  • Hot sauce
  • A saucepan
  • A whisk
  • Your favorite nacho toppings (beans, meat, sour cream, chopped tomatoes, guacamole, etc.)
  1. Make the base. In order to prevent a soggy mess when making your own nacho cheese with cheddar, you will first have to make a base.  Add 1 3/4 tablespoons of butter to a saucepan over medium-low heat. Melt the butter slowly, then whisk in one tablespoon of corn starch. After the corn starch is incorporated into the butter, slowly whisk in 1/2 cup of milk.
  2. Make it cheesy. Add 1 1/2 ounces of coarsely chopped cream cheese to the saucepan and stir until the cream cheese is completely melted. Then, add one cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese to the saucepan and stir until the cheddar is completely melted and the cheese sauce is smooth.
  3. Spice it up. Add the chili powder and hot sauce to the nacho cheese to taste. Start with 1/2 teaspoon of chilli powder and 1/2 teaspoon of hot sauce, then work up from there to your desired level of heat.
  4. Serve. Pour the hot nacho cheese with cheddar over a plate of crisp tortilla chips, top with your favorite nacho toppings, add more hot nacho cheese sauce and serve.
