How To Make Orange Chicken

Learn how to make orange chicken like a chef would in a fine gourmet restaurant. Your family, friends and guests will think you sent out for this wonderful entree. Don't let the name of the dish scare you off from trying to make it yourself. Often the more complicated the dish sounds the easier it is to cook. The orange flavor in this recipe is a real citrus wake up for your taste buds, even though the orange itself is delicate enough for the plain taste of the chicken. Once you make orange chicken you'll learn how to pair it with a cool summer fruit salad and a light pasta side dish or a hearty green salad with a nice wild rice dish.

To make orange chicken, you'll need:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
  • 1/4 cup of orange marmalade
  • 2 cups of seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 2 oranges, sliced
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Proper cooking temperature is key.
  2. Rinse and dry the chicken pieces. Use paper towels to pat the chicken dry.
  3. Spread orange marmalade evenly on both sides of all four chicken pieces. The marmalade is key to this recipe's distinct flavor.
  4. Put breadcrumbs in a bowl or on a plate. Press the chicken pieces into the breadcrumbs, coating both sides well.
  5. Put the chicken into a baking dish.  Bake in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until chicken is done with juices running clear.
  6. Serve with orange slices on the top and sides of the chicken. Makes four servings.

As always, when cooking chicken remember to clean all utensils and surfaces that touch the uncooked meat. It's better to do this as you go so as not to miss anything and transfer germs or bacteria.
