How To Make Paper Boats
Create fun decorations for your next party by learning how to make paper boats. Paper boats are easy to make and cost almost nothing to make. Paper boats can be made from any colored paper and easily decorated to any theme.
To make a paper boat, you will need:
-
Sheet of paper 8.5 x 11 inch
Directions:
-
To make a paper boat, first place the paper lengthwise on a table in front of you. Bring the top and bottom edges together evenly and make a crease at the fold.
-
Turn the folded paper lengthwise, bring the top and bottom edges together evenly and make a crease at the fold.
-
Open the folded paper like you would open a greeting card (crease should be at the top). Fold the top left corner (dog ear) over until the edge is even with the center crease and make a crease on the diagonal edge.
-
Turn the paper over so the diagonal fold is face down on the right. Fold the top left corner (dog ear) over until the edge is even with the center crease and make a crease on the diagonal edge.
-
Fold the bottom flap upwards toward the point of the paper and make a crease at the fold.
-
Turn the paper over and fold the other bottom flap upwards toward the point of the paper and make a crease at the fold. Your paper will resemble a pirate hat.
-
Turn the paper boat so the point is downward and open the boat by pulling the crease of the flaps outward. Tuck the flap ends as you flatten the boat into a square or rhombus.
-
Turn the rhombus with the open side facing you. Fold the first flap until it is even with the tip and make a crease. Turn the rhombus over and fold the second flap until it is even with the tip and make a crease. Your paper should now be a triangle.
-
Open the flat end of the triangle, pull outward, then flatten and crease all the folds. You should have a rhombus.
-
Pull the outward tips of the boat all the way out then flatten the paper. Crease all the folds. Turn the boat so the inside tip is up and spread the base of the paper boat to make it wider. Your paper boat should be able to stand on a flat surface.
Tips
You can use colored pencils, crayons, markers, craft paint, and stickers to decorate your paper boat.
Warning
Take care when folding each step to make sharp creases and folds with edges lining up evenly to make a better finished product.
