How To Make Ripped Jeans
Ripped jeans are a staple piece of clothing and should have a place in every closet so knowing how to make ripped jeans is essential knowledge. Buying these jeans yourself can become expensive after time, so ripping them yourself at home saves you time and money. This step by step process will show you how you can take a pair of old jeans that you don't wear often and turn them into ripped jeans you can wear all the time.
Things You'll Need
- Pair of jeans
- Chalk or a pencil
- Cheese grader
- Steak Knife
- Step One. Take the pair of jeans you have decided to rip and lie them down on a flat, smooth surface. This will make it easier when you are cutting and tearing the pants. Before you start marking holes or cutting, take a look at the jeans and picture in your head where you want your rips and tears.
- Step Two. Take a piece of chalk or pencil and mark on the pants where you will want to start cutting. This could be on the knee, thigh, or even the back pockets. Then you can take a pair of strong scissors and cut along the markings you made. Make sure to be careful and cut small holes as they will grow and stretch after washing and wearing.
- Step Three. Use a cheese grater or steak knife next and rub the roughest part against the slits or holes you have just cut out. You will need to do this repeatedly until you start to see the hole grow bigger and you will know you are doing it correctly when you see the threads of the rips begin to fray. You can continue until the hole in the jeans is the size you prefer.
- Step Four. After you have finished the ripping process, it is important to wash your jeans. This is so the wholes can stretch out to the size they will be when you wear them. This also gets any pencil or chalk off as well. Keep in mind the rips and tears may stretch a little more after being worn a couple times, but this is common. Once they are washed, your new and improved ripped jeans are ready to be shown off!
