How To Make A Rum Runner Cocktail

You’re smart to want to know how to make a Rum Runner cocktail. Invented in the Florida Keys, the Rum Runner, is a favorite crowd-pleaser of a drink with its golden color and sweet, fruity flavor. Mix it up rich, garnished with a few slices of fruit on a plastic drink skewer. The rum runner is a fun and sophisticated drink for both guys and girls. Serve a tropical Rum Runner cocktail any time of year.

To make a lovely Rum Runner cocktail, you will need these ingredients and items:

  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ½ oz. blackberry brandy
  • ½ oz. crème de banana
  • 1 ½ oz. gold rum
  • Dash of grenadine syrup
  • Orange slice
  • Maraschino cherry
  • Small, plastic skewer
  • Ice
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Hurricane glass
  1. Chill a hurricane glass by placing it in the refrigerator or freezer at least two hours before using it. Prepare a piece of orange slice and a maraschino cherry skewered on a plastic sword for garnish. Measure all ingredients.
  2. Fill your cocktail shaker with ice. Pour the orange juice, blackberry brandy, crème de banana, rum and grenadine syrup into the cocktail shaker. Shake well.
  3. Strain the chilled Rum Runner cocktail out of the cocktail shaker into the chilled hurricane glass. Put the fruit garnish into the drink. Serve immediately.

Some people use a mixture of half orange juice and half pineapple juice. You can make a slushy version of the drink by putting all the ingredients in a blender, along with a handful of ice. Blend the mixture into a fruity, frosty cocktail. Pour into any tall glass, add a straw, garnish and serve.
