Need to know how to make a Rum Runner? Just uttering the name Rum Runner brings to mind a scene of beach chairs firmly planted in white-sand beaches, the Caribbean gently lapping at the shore, palm trees waving in the breeze and the smell of the ocean. If it is summer, it's Rum Runner season. This fruity cocktail is just right for any setting, but is never better than when being sipped leisurely while reclining in a pool float. The recipe below makes just one drink, but this cocktail lends itself well to being made in a large batch.

To make the best Rum Runner, you will need:

  • A tall highball glass
  • Ice
  • 1 ounce coconut rum
  • 1/2 ounce blackberry brandy
  • 1/2 ounce banana liquor
  • 1/2 ounce grenadine
  • 3 ounces pineapple juice
  • 2 ounces cranberry juice
  • A pineapple wedge and maraschino cherries
  1. To make your Rum Runner, first fill the glass halfway full with ice cubes. Add in the coconut rum, blackberry brandy, banana liquor and grenadine. Stir well to mix all ingredients.
  2. Top off your Rum Runner with the pineapple and cranberry juice and stir well. Drop in a cherry and perch a pineapple wedge on the top of the glass for a garnish. Serve and enjoy!

A good Rum Runner cocktail, combined with a day in the sun, makes for one whopper of a headache. Drink plenty of water during the day to stay hydrated! You can get both the Rum Runner and the water at the same time by adding in three or four ounces of club soda to lighten up the cocktail. This way you'll have more to drink and it will take you longer to finish your cocktail.
