How To Make A Screwdriver

Learning how to make a screwdriver is essential for every home bartender, and is also very simple. A brunch staple, the drink got its name thanks to American oilmen who, in the 1950s, used screwdrivers to mix this classic drink. Best of all, a classic screwdriver can be made using only two main ingredients.

To make a classic screwdriver, you will need:

  • Vodka
  • Orange juice, preferably fresh-squeezed
  • Ice
  • A highball glass
  • Orange slices
  1. Fill the highball glass with ice. Pour two ounces of vodka and four to six ounces of orange juice into the glass. The vodka and orange juice can be mixed in a shaker if desired.
  2. Garnish with an orange slice. Serve and enjoy.

There are also some variations on the classic screwdriver. To make a "Slow Comfortable Screw," you will need:

  • Vodka
  • Orange juice
  • Sloe gin
  • Southern Comfort
  • Ice
  • A highball glass
  1. Fill the highball glass with ice. Pour two ounces of vodka, four to six ounces of orange juice, 1/2 ounce sloe gin and 1/2 ounce of Southern Comfort into the glass.
  2. Garnish as above if you like. Serve and enjoy.

To make a shooter version of the screwdriver, known as a "Cordless Screwdriver," you will need:

  • Vodka, freezer-chilled
  • Orange wedges
  • Sugar
  • A shot glass
  1. Dip an orange wedge into the sugar. Set aside.
  2. Pour one ounce of chilled vodka into a shot glass. When you take the shot, bite into the orange wedge.

To make a rum screwdriver, you will need:

  • Rum, preferably light
  • Orange juice
  • Ice
  • A highball glass
  1. Add ice to the highball glass. Pour 1 1/2 ounces of rum into the glass.
  2. Fill the glass with orange juice. Serve and enjoy.

To make a "Twisted Screwdriver," you will need:

  • Cherry vodka
  • Orange juice
  • Ice
  • A highball glass
  • A shaker
  1. Add ice, ten ounces of orange juice and two ounces of cherry vodka to the shaker. Shake well.
  2. Pour the mixture into a highball glass. Serve and enjoy.
