Making your skateboarding shoes slip on gives you so much more time to skateboard. Because, as we all know, it takes so long to tie shoes that by the time you finish, your skateboarding time budget just went down the drain. Of course, if you're trying to make a quick getaway out the door, skateboard in hand, without anyone noticing, well now that's much more important.
To make your skateboarding shoes slip on, you'll need:
- Skateboard shoes
- Rubber bands
- Sit down and put both skateboarding shoes in front of you. Make sure laces are laced relatively evenly. In other words, hold up both sides of the ties on a shoe – if they're even, you're good to go. If they're not, re-lace them, using the middle of the string as your reference point when feeding them through the top of the shoe.
- Grab the tongue of the skateboarding shoe. Yank it upwards, towards the toe of the shoe. This should drastically loosen laces. Do the same thing to the other shoe.
- Try slipping the skateboard shoes on. If you don't have to work your heel into the ground to slide it in, you've just made your skateboarding shoes slip-ons. If you do have to work on it too much, try getting a thinner sock or bend down and slide your index finger behind your heel to help it slide in better. Hey, if you didn't invent $200 in a pair of real slip-on skateboard shoes, you have to expect that you'll need to do a little work.
- Make sure your laces stay out of the way so you don't trip or roll over them with the skateboard. You might want to tie the excess lace in a knot, if there is much excess, or roll them up and tie rubber bands around them. You can also tuck the laces back into the shoe, and they'll look just like the shoes they sell at Skate America.
