How To Make Slow Cooker Curry

Learn how to make slow cooker curry with these three recipes. Curry can be made several ways, but with a slow cooker, the curry is more delicious and tender. Curry is a favorite of many people around the world and these recipes will indeed make your entire family pleased.

Slow Cooker Lamb Curry Recipe


  • 2 kilos lamb shanks, 2 to 2 1/2 inch pieces. (your butcher will cut for you)
  • 3 medium size onions, chopped
  • 3 scallions, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tblsps. tomato paste
  • 3 1/2 tblsps. curry powder
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tblsps. virgin olive oil or substitute
  • 1 tblsp. paprika
  • 2 tblsps. ghee (purified butter)
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt and Pepper


  1. In a large bowl put in the lamb shanks, onions, scallions, bell pepper, tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, curry and paprika to make the curry with. Let the lamb shanks marinate for one hour.
  2. In a large heavy bottom skillet add the oil and the ghee. When the ghee has melted and is hot, add in the lamb shanks alone to the oil, not the curry mixture.
  3. Brown the lamb shanks and then drain on a paper towel. In the bottom of a slow cooker, add some of the chopped veggies.
  4. On top of the veggies add in the lamb shanks. Next, add in the remaining chopped veggies and the water  for the curry sauce.
  5. Cook the lamb shanks and veggies for approximately six to seven  hours. Serve this very delicious lamb curry recipe with seasoned basmati rice.

Spicy Slow Cooker Chicken Curry Recipe


  • 3 tblsps. virgin olive oil
  • 3 onions sliced thin
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 jalapenos, deseeded and chopped finely
  • 1 inch of ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tblsp. curry powder
  • 1 tsp. garam masala
  • 1/4 cup of tomato paste
  • 4 large chicken breasts, cut into small pieces
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • cilantro leaves
  • 3/4 cup yogurt


  1. In a large skillet put the oil and heat. Add in the onions and the jalapenos and sautee slightly.  
  2. Add in the tomatoes, garlic, ginger and the chicken. Cook for five minutes turning the chicken often.
  3. Add in the spices and the tomato paste. Mix well and then add the entire mixture to a slow cooker.
  4. Cook the slow cooker chicken curry for five to six hours. Place the yogurt in a blender and mix well by pulsing a few times.  
  5. When the chicken is tender and done add in the yogurt and lemon juice and cook for 1/2 hour more.  Serve on a platter of basmati rice, with sprinkled coriander on top of the slow cooker chicken curry.

Slow Cooker Beef Curry Recipe


  • 2 tblsps. virgin olive oil
  • 1 kilo beef stew meat, cut into 2 inch pieces
  • 1 onion, peeled and sliced thin
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, peeled and chopped finely
  • 1 jalapeno, chopped finely
  • 1 large can plum tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 1 tblsp. curry powder
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • Salt and Pepper


  1. In a large skillet add the oil. Sautee the onions and jalapeno for one minute.
  2. Add in the meat, garlic and ginger. Brown the meat on all sides.
  3. Add in the tomatoes (chop up with your spoon), beef stock and the spices. Cook the curry mixture for another five minutes.
  4. Place the beef curry in a slow cooker. Cook the beef curry for five to six hours or until the beef curry is very tender.
