Knowing how to make a Tequila Sunrise can definitely impress your friends! Though the drink looks complicated, it is quite simple to make with a little practice. For the best quality, purchase top-shelf ingredients, such as a quality tequila and a pleasantly flavored orange juice.

Things needed for Tequila Sunrise

  • Shot glass (for measuring)
  • Tequila
  • Orange juice
  • Grenadine
  • Shaker
  • Ice
  • Highball glass
  • Spoon

How to make a Tequila Sunrise (easy)

  1. Measure four ounces (1/2 cup) of orange juice into the shaker with ice (optional). Add two ounces of tequila. Shake gently to chill and mix ingredients.
  2. Prepare the glass. It can be helpful to keep glasses chilled or frozen to help the drink stay cold longer. Place a couple of ice cubes in the glass. Pour the tequila-orange juice mix into the glass, straining out the foam and ice used for mixing.
  3. Add the grenadine (about one ounce) by pouring it slowly into the glass and allowing it to sink to the bottom. Garnish and serve.

How to make a Tequila Sunrise (hard)

Pour the grenadine into the bottom of the glass.
  3. Hold the spoon over the grenadine with the back of the spoon facing up. Very slowly pour the tequila-orange juice mixture over the back of the spoon allowing it to settle on top of the grenadine. This takes some practice.
  4. Add ice, garnish and serve.
