This recipe for a tuna salad sandwich is top notch and will be the reason you don't have to hide your can of tuna in the back of your cabinet anymore. To make two of these great tuna salad sandwiches, you'll need:
To make a tuna salad sandwich, you'll need:
- 1 can of tuna, packed in water
- 2 onion bagels
- 1 tbsp. diced celery
- 1 tbsp. diced sweet onion
- 1/2 tsp. dill weed
- 2 tbsp. diced tomatoes
- 2 tbsp. mayonnaise
- 2 tsp pickle relish
- 1/2 tsp. cilantro
- 1 tsp. of lemon juice
- Drain and squeeze all liquid out of tuna. The tuna should be dry so that the tuna salad won't be soggy and the fish taste will be reduced.
- Place tuna in bowl. Break it apart gently with a fork.
- Squeeze excess liquid from pickle relish. Add to bowl with tuna.
- Drain tomato after dicing to remove excess liquid. Add to bowl with tuna.
- Add remaining ingredients except for bagels. Mix well and place in refrigerator for at least an hour for flavors to meld together.
- Divide contents of bowl into two portions. Spread one portion each on the bottoms of the two bagels and place the bagel tops to complete the sandwiches.
You can add extra zip to these sandwiches by adding a dash of hot sauce or by using a salad dressing instead of the mayonnaise.
For extra crunch you can top the salad with a couple of crisp lettuce leaves, or by adding a tbsp. of sunflower seeds. Bagels are great for this sandwich however you can use your favorite bread also. If you do use bread it's better to toast the slices before building the sandwiches to prevent sogginess.
