How To Make Your Business Run Without You
If you feel like you can't step away from your business even for a minute, you need to learn how to make your business run without you. Your employees will have to take over some tasks in order for your business to run smoothly while you are away. Prepare your employees for a variety of situations, and they'll be able to run your business without you.
- Train your employees well. Don't just tell them what to do; explain why you want the business to run a certain way when you're not there. Allow them to ask questions, and help them brainstorm ideas for handling scenarios that might come up. They should receive enough training that they'll be comfortable running the business without you.
- Delegate responsibilities to your employees. Let your employees take over some tasks that you normally do yourself. Have them practice while you're in the room. As they get better, you can spend less time supervising them, and your business will run without you.
- Give employees your contact information so they can get in touch with you if they need to. No matter how carefully you plan to make your business run without you, now and then problems will arise that your employees can't handle by themselves. Make sure your employees have the information they'll need if they have to contact you. For example, you could leave your cell phone number or email address with a trusted employee. Most of the time, your business will probably run without you, but you'll be reachable in case it doesn't.
