How To Measure Bike Frame Size
Learn how to measure bike frame size so that you know the exact size of a bicycle. This information can be beneficial for a number of reasons. Perhaps you are planning on selling your used bicycle and can't remember the frame size or maybe you intend on purchasing a used bike and want to learn what size the frame is. Before you measure the frame size, check the bicycle tubing for any label that has the bike frame size specifications. Learn how to measure the bike frame size using the following steps.
To measure bike frame size, you will need:
- Measuring tape
- Pen
-
Paper
- Stand the bike upright. Use a kickstand or lean it against a steady surface so that you can accurately measure the frame size without having to hold the bike upright.
- Hold the end of the tape measure in the very center of the pedal crank. This is the metal bearing that holds the petal to the main sprocket.
-
Extend the tap measure all the way up to the top of the seat tube. Note that you do not measure the seat, only the bicycle tubing that contains the seat. Read the measurement on the tape measure in inches and record this information.
- Multiply the inches of the frame size by "2.54". This gives you the frame size in centimeters, also commonly known as "Actual Frame Size C-C measurements" or sometimes "Actual Seat Tube C-C measurements". Record this information.
Tip:
- Ensure you measure at the same angle as the bike frame, in order to get an accurate frame size.
