By keeping some basic guidelines in mind, you can learn how to measure your grip size for tennis. Having a tennis grip that is the proper size for your hand is very important to ensuring that your tennis game is played with both skill and comfort. Tennis grips can cause pain if too small as well as if too large. Follow these basic instructions in order to achieve optimal results.
- Lay your hand on a flat surface with the palm facing up and fingers relatively close together. Examine the palm. Most people have three creases which run across the length of their palm.
- Place a ruler on your palm with one end touching the middle crease in your palm. Position the ruler so that it is running up your ring finger.
- Measure the distance from the middle crease to the end of the ring finger. This will help you determine what size grip is appropriate for your hand. Be aware that you may not be able to find a grip that matches your hand perfectly–and in this case, it is fine to use a grip that is an eighth of an inch larger.
- Test out a variety of tennis racquet grips before you make a final decision. Though measuring your hand should be effective in getting you in the ballpark, you may still prefer slight variations in size. It is just as important to find a tennis grip that feels comfortable to you as it is to find one that meets the proper measurements of your hand.
