You aren’t the first person who has had to figure out how to mend a broken heart. It’s over, but it hurts. Friends offer advice, but that doesn’t help. Some say to get back on the horse and try again, while others say that the way to get over the heartbreak of a broken relationship is to give yourself some time. Who’s right? Well, they all are. Your ability to get past a broken heart depends on how well you get over any stressful situation. Follow these suggestions and adjust as needed.

  1. Discuss your broken heart with understanding people. Anyone who has experienced a broken heart can provide a listening ear and give you some guidance on how to mend yours.
  2. Remind yourself that you are still a valuable person capable of love. A broken heart doesn’t get mended by blaming yourself for what could have been. Your value as a loving person remains, but you need to find the right person to share it with. Jot down your positive traits to remind yourself of how much you have to offer.
  3. Don’t let yourself go. If you suffer from a broken heart, it’s tempting to stop eating, sleeping and taking good care of yourself. This is the best time to pamper your mind, body and soul by focusing on a strong, healthy regime of fitness, healthy food, meditation and introspection.
  4. Let it out. If you feel like crying after experiencing a broken heart, go ahead and let the tears fall. This is one of the best ways to mend internally and to get it out of your system.
  5. Get in touch with your old self. One of the best ways to mend a broken heart is to remember who you were before the relationship went sour. Stay busy and focus on what makes you happy.
  6. Take time to get over your broken heart. Don’t expect your emotions or psyche to mend on command. However, given enough time, you’ll be just fine. It may take days, weeks or months, but however long it takes is what you need.
  7. Use the time to find yourself. You may discover that you’ve changed for the better, even through the pain of a broken heart. You’ve learned new things about yourself and other people. Put this information to good use.

Although it’s not easy to get over a relationship, you can learn how to mend a broken heart by self-evaluation, giving yourself time to heal and learning from the experience. Now get out there and meet someone new!
