If you play "GTA 3" and you’ve seen some of the crazy mods people have made for it online, you may want to know how to mod “GTA 3” yourself. A mod is simply another word for a modification of a file to make the game act or look differently. Typically, mods make the game a lot more enjoyable and provide a whole lot more flexibility to the user. If you’re ready to mod “GTA 3” and get things like mega speed and exhaust flames for your cars, check out this simple and straightforward guide for modding “GTA 3.”

  1. Search for mods online and check their legitimacy. There are literally loads of mods online that are available for “GTA 3.” Most of them are completely legitimate, but there will always be fakes that were intentionally designed to either harm your computer or your game installation. Check the legitimacy of anything you plan on downloading to make sure that it is safe for your computer.
  2. Download the mods. Simply press the “Download” button next to any mods that you might want to try out. This will typically initiate a download of a .ZIP or .RAR file that contains the mod files. You’ll need a program like WinZip or WinRAR to open these types of files.
  3. Check to see if the mod can automatically install itself. In some cases, mods will be designed to install themselves so that you don’t have to worry about digging around in the game’s installation directory. Simply execute the file if this is the case, and it will proceed with automatically installing the mod for you.
  4. If it doesn’t, drop the file into the appropriate folder in the “GTA 3” directory. For example, some files might end in “cfg” and will need to be placed in the Data folder of the “GTA 3” directory. Once you’ve dropped these files into the correct folders, all you will need to do is overwrite the original (that’s if you’ve backed it up), and then start the game. This is exactly how you mod “GTA 3” and you should have no problem from here on out installing and using mods!
