How To Organize Your Garage
Learn how to organize your garage so it's neat and tidy and you'll be able to find your stuff. Garages are great, when they're neat and organized. But over time, your garage can become a jumbled mess of stuff. Your car is what belongs in your garage, but often, garages end up being storage spaces for sports gear, bicycles, garden equipment, and more. Keep your garage organized so you can easily find and use these items.
To organize your garage, you will need:
- Trash can
- Storage shelves
- Storage containers
- Tool racks
- Hanging bicycle rack
- Begin by cleaning and sorting. Move the car out of the garage and begin sorting all of your belongings that are in the garage. Throw away trash. Sweep the garage floor. Sort similar items together, such as all sports equipment, all gardening tools, car repair items, etc., into areas.
- Add storage shelves. If there is room, add storage shelves to your garage. Be sure to use tall shelves to take advantage of all of the vertical space all the way to the ceiling, if possible. This way you can get items off the garage floor and can place them on shelves, out of the way.
- Use storage containers. Move all of the like items into storage containers that are see through so you know what is inside each tub. Another option is to label the containers so you know what each container holds.
- Add racks to hold tools and bicycles. Hang some tool racks to hold rakes, shovels, etc. Hang a pegboard on the garage wall to hang hand tools. Add a bike rack on the ceiling to get it off the floor.
