- Practice balancing. In order to be able to paddle surf, you need to be able to balance on the board correctly. Balancing becomes a little tricky here since you are going to have to balance on water. Try and practice your balancing skills by walking in a straight line. You can use a piece of rope or a marked line on the ground to represent your line. This is not the same as being in the water, but it will help to strengthen your body teach you how to keep your balance.
- When you get out into the water, start off on your knees. If you are just beginning, chances are that you are trying to get used to the feel of being on the board. Once you get better, you can start off on your feet. For now, just start on your knees and slowly work your way up.
