Need to know how to place a bet on football? Football is a very popular sport in the United States, as well as many other countries all over the world.  Every Saturday and Sunday, many people get together and watch football all day and enjoy placing a bet on the football games.  Let's discuss how to place a bet on football.

  1. The first step to placing a bet on football, is finding someone that can take the bet.  The options for this include bookies, casinos, and online sports books.  A bookie is a local person that takes sports bets.  Usually bookies can take bets over the phone and meet up with the bettors once a week to settle the amount owed.  A casino is a place where there are many gambling options and many of them offer sports betting.  An online sports book is a website that allows people to deposit money and use that money to bet on football and other sports.
  2. The next step when learning how to bet on football, is finding out how betting on football works.  In each game, there is a favorite and an underdog. For each game, there is also a point spread.  In order to win a bet on the favorite, the team must win by more than the point spread.  In order to win a bet on an underdog, the team must either lose by less than the point spread or win the game.  If the game ends on the point spread, it is a tie and all money is returned. There is also the option of betting on the total of the game.  The total of the game is bet on by choosing the over or under.  To get the total both teams' point totals are combined.  If the total points scored are higher than the total, then anyone placing a bet on the game being "over" the total will win.  If it is lower than the total, then anyone placing a bet on the "under" wins.  Choosing a team or the total are both options when placing a bet on football.
  3. Depending on which method used to place a bet on football, there are different ways to pay or receive the money for the bets.  With a bookie, as stated above, the bettors meet up with the bookie once a week and settle their difference in money.  At a casino, the bettors go up to the window and pay the amount they are betting and receive a ticket.  If the bet wins, they return to the window with their winning ticket and collect their money.  For an online sports book, the bettors make a deposit and are able to wager however much of that money at a time.  If the money is lost, the bettors can deposit more to wager more money.  If the bettor wins, they can withdraw the cash and receive a check in the mail or have the money transferred to their bank account.

For many people, learning how to bet on football is a great opportunity for entertainment.  It is important to be responsible with the amount of money that is being wagered.  If place wagers on football is causing financial difficulties or problems with the family, there are ways to seek help.
