Learn how to plan Christmas dinner parties and you'll be the host with the most. Christmas is a great time to have dinner parties to share the season's festivities with family and friends. The food and drinks served at Christmas dinner parties is often central to the festivities. With proper planning, as the host of a Christmas dinner party, you can prepare the food and drinks ahead of time and be able to enjoy the party.

To plan Christmas dinner parties, you will need:

  • Invitations
  • Dinner menu
  • Drink options
  • Dishes and glasses
  • Serving dishes
  • Christmas decorations
  1. Send invitations. To make the Christmas dinner party extra special, buy or make invitations and send them to guests through the mail. This extra touch makes your dinner party more special from the start. Be sure to include the time for guests to arrive and any other important information.
  2. Plan the dinner party menu. Determine what food you want to serve and whether you'll cook the food or buy it prepared. Think about serving the following types of food: main meat dish, potatoes or rice, vegetables, bread or rolls, and dessert.
  3. Consider drinks to serve. Serve cocktails at Christmas dinner parties to add to the festive atmosphere. Have plenty of nonalcoholic drinks available as well as alcoholic libations. Hot apple cider or hot chocolate might be a nice way to finish the evening.
  4. Gather enough dishes, glasses and serving dishes. Go all out and use the good dishes and serving platters and dishes. This will make the meal more special.
  5. Decorate for Christmas. If possible, buy a few holiday decorations to add to the festive atmosphere. A wreath on the door to greet the guests is a nice touch. Some taper candles with evergreen accents on the table add to the Christmas party fun.
