When figuring out how to plan perfect first date, keep in mind all the obstacles you need to battle so you stay in control of the occasion without a hitch. Anyone can plan a first, but a perfect first date requires preparation and creativity. When you have taken the step from nervously asking a girl out to hearing her agree to your proposal, use the following first date planning guide so you can focus more on having a good time instead of your nerves:

  1. Make a plan for the night at least a few days in advance. You invited the girl on a date; it is your duty to come up with an evening the two of you will enjoy. In your plan, establish a time to pick up your date so you can arrive at your destination at a descent hour. Additionally, figure out if you will need to get cash from the ATM or change for a parking meter before you pick up your date.
  2. Clean your car. Pick up the French fries from the floor of the car, organize your loose change, bring your receipts inside, throw away the trash and vacuum the interior. You do not need to get your car detailed, but make it look nice enough that you do not feel you need to apologize for how messy it looks on your first date.
  3. Prepare your outfit. Do not worry about what you are going to wear by planning your first date outfit a head of time. Your outfit should match the style of the venue you are going to on your first date. For example, if you are going to a semi-formal restaurant, wear an outfit that is dressy yet casual.
  4. Let your date know the plans. Call your date a few days in advance and let her know the first date plans. Calling your date on the phone in lieu of texting or emailing her adds a personal touch to the event that will make your date look forward to seeing you. Moreover, she will appreciate knowing the plans so she can also prepare.
  5. Remember your manners. No matter what anyone says about chivalry being dead or how independent women claim they are, it always pays to be a gentleman. Part of planning a perfect first date is including a plan to put your best foot forward. Gentlemanly gestures include showing up on time, opening doors, paying sincere compliments, not blaring your music in the car, paying for everything and remembering the ladies-first rule. If you need to, brush up on your knowledge of manners before your first date. Learning as you go does not apply in this situation.
