Supplies needed to plan a surprise retirement party:

  • Party invitations
  • Cell phone
  • Cake
  • Beverages
  • Food
  • Noise makers
  • A knack for keeping secrets

How to plan a surprise retirement party:

  • Party invitations.  The first step in learning how to plan a surprise retirement party, is to let everyone know that the party is a SURPRISE.  Send out party invitations to all your guests, and inform everyone that this is a top secret operation.  Make it clear that under no circumstances should they mention the party to the guest of honor.
  • Secrecy.  Obviously, secrecy is a HUGE part of learning to plan any surprise party.  You must have the ability to keep a secret, and offer no hints whatsoever.  Not only do you have to keep a secret, you will also need to be secretive with your conversations regarding party planning.  If the guest of honor is nearby when you need to talk about the party on the phone, step away so your conversation won't be overheard.
  • Cake.  Anytime you learn how to plan a surprise retirement party, you'll want to order a cake.  When ordering the cake, specify how many guests will be attending to ensure that you'll get the right size.  Also, do NOT give a contact number that the guest of honor may accidentally intercept.  Instead, give your cell phone number and let the bakery know that the cake is for a surpriseparty.
  • Beverages and food.  If you cannot bring beverages and food without the guest of honor knowing about it, assign the duty to someone else.  Ask guests to all bring a covered dish or beverage, or consider hiring a caterer.
  • Noise makers.  You can learn how to plan a surprise retirement party without noise makers.  Guests will need them when the guest of honor arrives, so they can yell 'SURPRISE!' and make a lot of noise with the noise makers.  Obviously, half the fun of any surprise party is scaring the guest of honor.

If you follow all this advice on how to plan a surprise retirement party, you should be able to keep your secret and throw an awesome party.  Have a great time!
