Knowing how to plan a vacation to Europe will help your travel plans go as smoothly as possible. Planning your trip will ensure you don't lose time or money when traveling to Europe. There are several things every traveler should do when planning a vacation to Europe.

  1. You need to make sure you have a passport. If you already have a passport, make sure it isn't expired. If you need a passport, plan ahead. It can sometimes take several months to receive your passport in the mail. It's a good idea to go ahead and apply for your passport if you are even considering a vacation to Europe.
  2. Make an itinerary. Decide what countries and places you want to visit. Decide how many days you will spend in each place and how you will get there. Say you are traveling from England to Ireland--take a ferry or a plane. Knowing how you will get from place to place will not only save you time, but will help you have a much more relaxed vacation.
  3. Book accommodations in advance. Making sure you have a place to stay once you reach your destination is important when planning a vacation to Europe. There would be nothing worse than arriving at your destination without somewhere to rest your head. Whether booking a hotel or bed and breakfast, you can usually make your reservation online.
  4. Do a little research. It won't hurt to know a little bit about where you are going. It may even make your vacation more fun and interesting. Learning a few words of the language spoken will help enhance your trip. The locals will at least be impressed that you attempted to speak the language.
  5. Try to pack as light as possible. Traveling in Europe can be fast paced, especially if you are switching trains. You don't want to be carrying around heavy bags and getting tired out while you are trying to enjoy your vacation. Plus, if you are going to travel by plane you often have to pay extra if your bag exceeds the weight limit. It's best to plan to take two small bags on wheels when vacationing in Europe.
  6. Keep your safety in mind. Since you are in a foreign country, it's important to be diligent in staying safe. Always be aware of your surroundings and make sure you keep your valuables in a safe place. You can buy a belt pouch that goes under your clothes so you can conceal your money and passport. It's important to keep your passport on you at all times while vacationing in Europe.

Tips & Warnings:

  • If you plan to rent a car while vacationing in Europe, make sure you have your driver's license.
  • If you plan on using any kind of electronic devices, make sure you use a voltage converter. You can purchase these online or in most stores that carry electronic accessories.
  • It's also important to wear clothing that isn't too bright or makes you stand out. Blending in and not looking like a tourist is always a good thing when vacationing in Europe.
