How To Play Battlefield 1942 Vietnam
If you are a fan of previous Battlefield games or new to the genre itself and want to play in a non-WW2 setting, you may be wondering how to play Battlefield 1942 Vietnam. Battlefield Vietnam is, of course, the first foray into Vietnam for the Battlefield series. Instead of the usual WW2 setting split between Europe and the Pacific, this Battlefield Vietnam is set entirely in the Vietnam region. If you are remotely familiar to any of the other Battlefield game, you will have a good idea on how to play Battlefield Vietnam. The game took the formula made popular by Battlefield 1942 and tweaked it to a different war, including the strengths and weaknesses of both sides.
- The Points System. Battlefield Vietnam is scored in the same way as Battlefield 1942. Each team tries to take over a designated area on the map. These strategic points, once captured by a team, will slow down the depletion of that teams score. Each base captured also spawns new vehicles for the team to use. Once the ticker reaches zero, the game is over. The best way to play Battlefield Vietnam in regards to the scoring system is to pay attention. Note which base is undefended and which is in the most strategic spot. Often times it is best to circumvent the enemy army entirely and try to stealthy capture a base behind their lines, sending them into a panic that will completely ruin their day. Each death depletes the ticker, so do not be too gung-ho about capturing a base. Watch the situation and react accordingly.
- As the Americans. The Americans in Battlefield Vietnam have a much better vehicle army than the Vietcong. Make sure you use vehicles as much as possible. The Huey alone can decimate an opposing team with a good pilot and people backing him up. Always watch the backs of your tanks; an RPG to the backside can completely destroy one. While the infantry guns may be lacking compared to the Vietcong, the vehicular superiority gives the American army an edge in fire power. Make sure to keep a close eye on your surroundings; a stray rocket can decimate your tank in seconds.
- As the Vietcong. The Vietcong, while weak in the vehicle department, have the superior infantry. From their guns to their movement options, the Vietcong are a strong fight for the Americans. As a Vietcong, make sure you try to get the jump on people. If it is a player on foot, try to hide in the bushes and kill him before he can fire back. For vehicles, make sure you carry an RPG. An RPG to the back of a tank will put it out of commission quickly. The "SiPi Hole," which is basically a spawn point that moves, is a huge help to the Vietnamese armies. Use this to your advantage to overwhelm your enemies.
