Having the proper agility, leverage and quickness are all very important, as is significant upper-body strength. Having skill in these areas, along with a great deal of practice, will help you understand how to play center position in football effectively.

  1. Understand the offense. Center is one of the few positions that must understand what several other players on the unit are doing on every play. To know how to play center position in football well, you must be the leader of the offensive line and you are expected to call out blocking assignments to your fellow linemen before the quarterback snaps the ball.
  2. Have quick reflexes.
