How To Play On Indoor Soccer Fields

Learning how to play on indoor soccer fields requires you to learn how to play on different surfaces other than grass. The ball moves much more quickly because grass usually slows it down, while the common indoor soccer surfaces do not. Indoor soccer even requires a different pair of footwear because cleats are not needed for grip and will tear the floor up.

  1. Purchase the pair of indoor soccer shoes that you like the most before you play on indoor soccer fields. All the regular soccer brands like Adidas, Nike, Puma and Diadora also make indoor soccer shoes in addition to soccer cleats. By purchasing a pair of these, you will have better grip than you would if you wore tennis shoes. Indoor soccer shoes will also allow you to put more spin on the ball when you kick it, and they will be a lot like playing with cleats minus the spikes on the bottom.
  2. Practice running and kicking on the different surfaces that are common for indoor soccer fields. This includes wood, turf and sometimes rubber or plastic. All of these surfaces are very different from grass and require some getting used to. Passes on the ground will move much faster because there is not as much friction to slow the ball down as there is with grass.
  3. When you play on indoor soccer fields, you will notice that the goals are much smaller, and so is the field. Everything is proportional and there are good reasons why they are smaller. It would be very expensive to have a full size soccer field, and most places do not have the necessary funds or space to build one. The goals are much smaller because there are many more shots taken in indoor soccer. It would be unfair for the goalie to have to guard a goal that is as large as the outdoor soccer goals when he or she has to block two to three times as many shots.
  4. Indoor soccer fields do not have the normal boundaries. There are generally walls surrounding the field that do not count as out of bounds but are actually a part of the soccer field. You can kick the ball off of these walls and pass to yourself, a teammate or even shoot off of them if you want to.
