Many people wonder how to prepare for a Chlamydia test. While you may have many questions to ask the doctor, it is also important to know what to expect when you arrive. By being prepared for a Chlamydia test beforehand, the whole process and procedure will go smoother and quicker than you expect.

  1. Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease caused by a bacteria that can lead to an infection. Most people do not have any symptoms if they have contracted Chlamydia, but this disease can do harmful damage to a woman's reproductive organs if not caught soon. That is why it is important to get regular check-ups for Chlamydia, especially if you are sexually active.
  2. A Chlamydia test is done by the doctor collecting a urine sample or by letting your doctor take a swab from the vagina or penis. If giving a urine sample, make sure you don't urinate for at least 2 hours. That way you'll be sure that you can give a sample to the doctor. The results for the test can take anywhere from three days to three weeks.
  3. If your test results show that you are positive for Chlamydia, you will be given antibiotics to take. You will also need to refrain from unprotected sex for the duration of your antibiotics. Have your partner or anyone you've had sexual contact with tested as well. If one of you goes untreated, the other can still infect you again, and then you will end up just passing it back and forth to each other.
  4. If you find that you are nervous about taking this test, bring someone along with you for moral support. The main thing is to stay calm and not be nervous, and the process will go by fast. Remember; it's better to know so that you can start healing your body.
