If you want to start hang gliding, you need to know how to prepare for hang gliding lessons. Many people have the dream of flying like a bird, and hang gliding is the closest way for people to achieve this dream. There are some very specific things you can do to get ready to take your hang gliding lessons. Pay attention and take these steps in order to prepare for hang gliding lessons.

  1. Save some money. Hang gliding can be an amazing experience, but it comes with a big price tag. In order to prepare for hang gliding lessons, you will want to have several thousand dollars saved. Not only will you have to pay for hang gliding lessons, after you become certified, you will have to purchase hang gliding equipment. It is better to have the money saved ahead of time, than to run out of money when you are in the middle of hang gliding lessons.
  2. Find a good hang gliding school. One of the most important things you can do when you learning how to prepare for hang gliding lessons is to find the right hang gliding school. You will want to chose a school that is certified by the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, which is also known as the USHPA. Schools that are USHPA certified will also have USHPA instructors teach their hang gliding classes.
  3. Get in shape. While almost anyone can hang glide, getting in shape to prepare for hang gliding lessons will make your life a lot easier. Hang gliding can be physically challenging, so starting an exercise routine, before you start taking hang gliding lessons, will help your body prepare for the hang gliding lessons. Since hang gliding sometimes have to fly through tabulate conditions, they need to have some upper body strength.
  4. Set aside some free time. There are many different things, including the weather and wind conditions, that can affect how long it will take to finish hang gliding lessons. Anywhere from five to ten lessons will be needed in order for someone to get the beginning and novice USHPA pilot ratings. Getting these ratings can take someone three to six months.
  5. Read. Another great way to prepare for hang gliding lessons is to read as much about hang gliding as you can. Reading books, magazines, and online articles will give a lot of great information about hang gliding. You can also read online forums as a great way to read about experiences that other people have had hang gliding. Reading about other people's hang gliding experiences will give you a ton of information that will help you prepare for your hang gliding lessons.
