Planning road trips can take a lot from you, but if you’re planning one, you need to take the time to learn how to prepare for a long road trip.

To prepare for a long road trip, you will need:

  • A Safe Vehicle
  • Essential Items from the grocery store
  • A planned out trip on paper
  • Extra cash
  • A packed vehicle with all of your personal items
  1. Making sure your car is ok for the long road trip, is the best way to keep you safe, and make sure you get to your destination on time. You should always make sure your're not due for an oil change, and if you are, schedule one the day before you go. Once you are in a shop for you car, you can have the mechanics check for any thing else that might affect your road trip. You may need to get a front wheel alignment, or they might recommend that you change one to all of your tires. It can be expensive, but its well worth it when you’re taking a long trip and you want to be assured you will make it safely.
  2. A shopping trip for all the items you will need while you’re away plus the things you will want to have with you in the car for the trip is a must. It could be drinks, maybe snacks, even sandwiches or other meals that will hold you over. You and I both know it can be expensive stopping for gas, and then having to eat at a restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you have the money to do so, then feel free to eat when and where you want, but other wise this is your best bet to save you money.
  3. Plan your route and making sure you left a copy of it with someone so that if anything is to go wrong the right people will know where to look. You will also have better luck not getting lost if you have your route planned, where you will need to stop for gas, and possibly even estimate your gas prices. If you can get an idea of gas prices where you will be stopping, then you can have an idea of how much cash you should have available.
  4. When you pack your car, you will need to pack for however long you will be staying at your destination. If you have special events, you will want to make sure you have all the items for the special event as far as clothing, shoes, and other things you might need. You always want to pack a little extra just to make sure that you have extra clothing if your trip gets prolonged, or you don’t have any access to cleaning your clothing.  Always remember if you have a cell phone that your phone is fully charged and you have your charger. If you need to stop and your phone is dying, most rest stops do have plugs in the bathrooms that you can use to charge up your phones.

If you’re planning to take your time with your road trip, it isn’t a bad idea to do some site seeing. Your drive does not have to bore you to tears. It's very easiest to get agitated on a road trip, whether from lack of sleep, or just taking so long, and being agitated isn’t the safest way to be making your trip. If you will have someone else coming along, it would be a good idea to taking turns driving. This way you won’t always have to be so worried about the road, you can be a second set of eyes, but you can also relax a bit. Again, a long road trip doesn’t have to be a bad thing, and can be very enjoyable.
