How To Prepare For Paddle Surfing
Paddle surfing is a great workout for surfers and non-surfers alike, and this article will show you how to prepare for paddle surfing. Make sure you have all the right equipment and let's get started!
Materials needed to prepare for paddle surfing:
- Stand up paddle board
- Paddle
- Open water
- Roof rack (optional)
- Buy a board. Obviously, to prepare for paddle surfing you will need to find a stand up paddle board. Size ranges for stand up paddle boards range from 8’6” to over 14.’ Larger boards are more stable, but require more skill to ride waves.
- Buy a paddle. This is the second in a series of obvious steps required to prepare for paddle surfing. You will want to but the proper paddle for your height. Err on buying a paddle that is too long rather than too short.
- Roof Rack. If you want to get your paddle board to the beach you will need either a roof rack or a truck. Getting the board to the beach is an important step to prepare for paddle surfing. If you have a roof rack, you will need to secure the board and paddle using straps.
- Know how to swim. You must prepare for paddle surfing the same way you would prepare for all water sports. As such, knowing how to swim and being comfortable in open water are important skills to master for anyone that is trying to prepare for paddle surfing.
- Find some water. Ideally, when you are learning to stand up paddle surf, you’ll want to start in calm flat water. As you advance, you can move to riding waves.
