Need to know how to prevent aging skin? Preventing aging skin has been the Holy Grail for men and women for centuries. There have been many speculations on exactly what products, or combinations of products, work to relieve and/or prevent the signs of aging skin. Some have merit; others are just snake oil.
- The absolute best skin treatment is prevention. Smoking is the worst possible thing you can do to your skin. It dries out the skin surrounding the mouth, and most smokers use more salt on their food as the smoke has dulled their sense of taste. Salt has been used for centuries to preserve and purify meats and vegetables, and while it is a good preservative, it hardy gives the results desired by most people. Sugar is also a drying agent, and one not as well recognized. Limiting both salt and sugar intake is a good start preventing aging skin.
- The best remedies include those that rehydrate aging skin. A good lotion with sunscreen helps protect aging skin from damage. It is also important to eat healthy and exercise regularly. A good cardio workout twice a week will promote a healthy complexion.
- Your diet needs to include foods that contain antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, selenium, lutein and vitamins A, C and E. These substances promote skin elasticity, and protect against exposure to free radicals and environmental toxins such as tobacco smoke, car exhaust and radiation. Rather than take supplements, you can increase your antioxidants through diet. Foods that are high in antioxidants include: beans, berries, fruit, grains, herbs, nuts, vegetables and even dark chocolate!
