Want to learn how to prevent arthritis? You might be concerned by statistics stating that arthritis effects more than four out of six adults in America. This speaks volumes on how common this condition truly is. There is no certain demographic for whom may develop arthritis in their life span. This is why it is so important to take every precaution that you can to prevent arthritis as early in life as you can.

  1. Control your weight. One of the most common factors in developing arthritis is obesity. Obesity can speed up the process by 50% because of the pressure and strain that extra weight puts on your bones and joints. By shedding a few extra pounds and staying at an average weight (according to your BMI) you can prevent arthritis from forming.
  2. Exercise, but in moderation. Another great way that you can prevent arthritis is to exercise regularly. The best type of exercise for any body at any age is low impact. This means you get all the benefits of exercising without putting too much pressure on joints and bones. Exercises such as walking, jogging, or low impact aerobics are the best. Weight lifting and spot exercises are great as long as you aren't straining the joints beyond their limits. More intense exercises such as running and intense sports may be great for occasional activity, but repeated exposure may strain joints and do long term damage.
  3. Eat right, now. One of the best ways to prevent arthritis is to eat the right nutrients for your body. Your body needs a multitude of vitamins to function properly. These nutrients such as Calcium, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Glucosamine are great for healthy joints and bones. Try to stay away from fatty foods and alcohol which can lessen the density of your bones.
  4. Increase flexibility. Stretching is amazing for your body. Not only will you become more flexible but also help your bones. When you stretch out those muscles surrounding joints and bones, you are creating a fail safe for them. Fluid muscles helps prevent common joint injuries that occur. Yoga and Pilates are two great exercises to practice.

It all comes down to being responsible and taking care of your body. A little bit can get you a long way in way. Simply just practicing the steps above can easily prevent arthritis from forming in your body and for years to come.

Tips: Water makes up 70 percent of your body.  By drinking good quality water, you will help give your body a simple nutrient that it needs. Avoid repetitive motions. Ask your local doctor for information on preventing arthritis.
