- Read books. Reading interesting, captivating, thought-provoking books (whatever this may be to you, mystery novels, science fiction, or philosophy) is a great way to keep your neurons active. Set goals for yourself. Try to read a book every one to two weeks.
- Stay creative. You know how you liked to draw, paint, build, or create in any other way, when you were a kid? Well, do it as an adult to help prevent memory loss. Make some sort of creative activity a part of your everyday life, such as metalwork, painting, pottery, or even gardening.
- Turn off the television and go for a walk. People who watch less TV, especially later in life, are less likely to experience cognitive impairment. Go out, get your blood flowing, and be stimulated by the fresh air, the birds singing, the colors of the flowers and trees.
- Eat fish. To prevent memory loss make sure you are getting your fair share of omega oils. Eat fish once or twice a week, snack on walnuts, supplement with flax seed oil.
- Supplement with B vitamins. As you age your body will have more difficulty absorbing nutrients. The B-complex vitamins in particular are important for preserving cognitive function. Eat plenty of whole grains and take supplements to prevent memory loss as you age.
