How To Prevent Razor Bumps
Learning how to prevent razor bumps is not necessarily complicated so much as it is time-consuming; often, rushing through the shaving process or neglecting to moisturize are exactly what lead to the annoying and itchy red bumps that we are all too familiar with. Luckily, you can easily prevent razor bumps by following a few simple steps every time you shave.
To prevent razor bumps, you will need:
- Shaving cream or gel
- A fresh razor
- Lotion or after-shave
- Select a sharp, clean razor to shave with, and replace the blade often. Razors should never be used if dull, dirty, or rusty.
- Apply a thin (1/8") layer of shaving cream over the area to be shaved. This will act as a lubricant between the razor and your skin.
- Run the razor over the area in smooth, even strokes, going against the grain of the hair on all but the most sensitive areas for the smoothest shave.
-
Rinse the blade after each stroke. Rinse the shaved area thoroughly with warm water after shaving, then pat your face dry.
- Apply after-shave or moisturizing lotion over the area after each shave to prevent ingrown hairs and razor bumps from forming.
One more helpful tip: moisturizing the skin often in between shaving will also help reduce the occurrence of razor bumps, and keep your skin smooth and healthy. If you still find yourself developing razor bumps after following the tips described, try switching to a sensitive skin variety of shaving gel or cream, which can add even more moisture to your skin.
