If you want to send someone a picture of what you are looking at on your desktop, using the print screen feature on your Mac computer is the best way to do so.  All captured screen images will be saved to your computer with the "Picture" prefix.

  1. Full Screen Capture. When you use the full screen capture feature on your Mac computer, you will be taking a screenshot of your entire desktop. To do this, press the "Command" key, the "Shift key", and the "3" key together. The captured screen image that you took will then be saved to your desktop.
  2. Partial Screen Capture. Using the partial screen capture feature on your Mac is a good idea if you only want to take a still image of a portion of your desktop. To do this, you will need to hold the "Command" key, the "Shift" key, and the "4" key together. While you are holding those keys down, use your mouse to select the area that you want to print screen.
  3. Application Screen Capture. Application screen capture is an interesting print screen feature that comes standard on Mac computers. Taking an application screen capture enables you to take a still image of an application. You can use this print screen feature on your Mac by pressing the "Command" key, the "Shift" key, the "4" key, and the "Spacebar" key together. Once you have done that, a dialog box will open that prompts you to select the application that you wish to take an image of.
