There are many creditors who will finance even those who have bad credit. There are many options available to consumers with low credit scores to help them finance a home.
- Obtain a recent copy of your credit score. It is best that you know your status before attempting to buy your home. Review the report for any errors. It is possible that you can dispute and have any incorrect items removed to help raise your score.
- Research government lenders, such as, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). You may be approved for these types of loans without your bad credit score being a factor. You may be approved even with negative items on your report but you must have a zero balance or make arrangements with the creditor to pay the debt. If you are approved for this type of loan, you are required to purchase a home in a rural area.
- Consider seller financing. If the seller of the home is providing financing, you will pay the seller and may not be required to have a high credit score. In many cases, be prepared to put down a large down payment. You will take over the payments of the home. This method may benefit you but if you move you will not own any interest in the home.
- Use a high interest mortgage lender. You may find a lender that approves loan for those with bad credit but you may have a high interest rate. It is possible that you may refinance later to receive a better interest rate after making timely payments and improving your credit score.
