By keeping some basic guidelines in mind, you can learn how to put on a wetsuit. Wetsuits are important in both providing warmth in cold water and giving a bit of buoyancy. Use care when putting on a wetsuit in order to prevent the development of any wrinkles, which can be extremely uncomfortable. Determine if you will use the wetsuit for swimming, scuba diving, or surfing. There or slight variations on the make of wetsuits designed for each of these purposes, and it is important to find a wetsuit that best suits your needs in order to achieve optimal results.

  1. Prepare your body. Put lubricant over your body in order to allow the wetsuit to slide on more easily. Make sure to be liberal with the lubricant around the ankles, feet, legs, back of the neck, and shoulders.
  2. Unzip the suit, and lay it out flat in front of you. Carefully place one leg in the wetsuit, and pull it up over your leg, being sure to keep the zipper in back. Pull the suit up a bit at a time, and repeat the process with the other leg. Once the wetsuit is around your waist, grab and pull all of the material firmly, eliminating any wrinkles in the legs.
  3. Place one arm into one of the sleeves, and pull the sleeve tight. Repeat the process with the other arm. Carefully zip the suit up all of the way, and cover with the velcro tab that holds the zipper in place.
