To rail grind on skis, you will need:

  • Freestyle skis
  • Skiing safety gear
  • A rail
  1. Always warm up and check out the environment you will be performing your trick in. Check the stability of the rail, as well. Make certain you are strapped in, then step back and get ready.
  2. Approach the rail with moderate speed. No need for major air here, just enough to get the base of the skis on the rail. There should be a slight ramp or grade in front of the rail. When you hit it, jump slightly on your skis. Be sure the skis are elevated and not under the rail.
  3. Slide on the rail between the bindings. Your arms should be out to help with balance. Grind the rail until just before the end. When you dismount, jump slightly and turn your hips outward.
  4. Stick the landing, and there you have it. That is all it takes to grind a rail. Elevation, ski placement towards and above the rail, grind between the bindings and dismount.
