If you ever hope to become a successful gambler, then it will be necessary for you to learn how to read poker players. Poker is not a game of luck.  It is a game of skill, strategy, wit and observation. That’s right, observation. You can not hope to have any success if you only play the cards dealt to you. You have to be aware of the others around. In essence, you are not playing cards; you are playing your opponents. Once you learn how to read other poker players, you will have better chance of determining the odds that are stacked up against you.

  1. To read poker players, it is important to understand that everything that goes on at the table is a form of acting. If a player is showing that they have a strong hand, there is a good chance that they are bluffing. The reverse is also true. If a player is acting as if they have a weak hand, there is high probability that this is also a bluff job.
  2. Of course, the best poker players will keep you guessing. Sometime’s they will show a strong hand, and they actually will have a strong hand. To avoid following for this guise, it is best to not read too much into these actions. It is better to look for smaller, less noticeable tells and signs.
  3. If a player is breathing at rapid pace, or their hands are shaking, this is a sign that they have a good hand. They are anxious to play their cards. Of course, these signs are also easy to fake. So look for small nuances like a little tremble, or a quick sigh and shrug. Basically, if they are trying to hide the tell, the chances are great that it is actually a tell.
  4. Taking a long time to call a bet. If a player takes awhile to call a bet, there is a good chance that they do not have a strong hand. They are in essence calculating the risk reward ratio. This, of course, is also easy to fake. So do not fall for any overt delays and stalls. Instead, look for small, slight hesitations that the player is trying to hide.
  5. You can read poker players, especially if they are inexperience, by following their breath. Novice poker players will hold their breath when they are bluffing.
  6. Novice poker players will also often attempt to represent strength and confidence when they have a weak hand. If you want to know how to read poker players, look for overt signs of confidence and strength. This can done through talk, or they may even try to stare you down. Do not fall for this acting, because that probably is all it really is.
