If you ever wanted to post gameplay videos on Youtube or just save them for future viewing, you will want to know how to record Xbox 360 gameplay. Recording Xbox 360 gameplay is actually quite easy, assuming you have the proper equipment. There are both rather basic and technical ways to record gameplay in varying quality. If you want better quality Xbox 360 gameplay recordings, you will need to shell out quite a hefty sum of change.

To record Xbox 360 gameplay, you will need:

  • An Xbox 360
  • A computer
  • RCA cables
  • Xbox 360 component cables
  • Either a capture card, DVD recorder or a USB capture device
  1. Using a capture card. Capture cards are the most common form of recording devices. They can either be installed internally in your computer or externally, usually through a USB capture device. Capture cards are rather easy to use. Most of them come with an audio and video in slot. To use a capture card, simply plug the Xbox 360 component cables into the RCA cables that are connected to the capture card. You will be able to record the gameplay on your computer using the software supplied with the capture card. Capture cards can run between 30 and 200 dollars.
  2. Using a DVD recorder. DVD recorders are a bit of a pain to use. This allows for the recording of gameplay onto DVDs, which then need to be transferred to a computer. You need to play the Xbox 360 like normal on your television with the DVD recorder plugged in as well. Simply press record on the DVD to record your Xbox 360 gameplay. DVD recorders come with the drawback of not being able to record in chunks. You will have to record one long stream of video. Also, you will need to convert the video if you want to put it on Youtube. DVD recorders usually cost around 150 dollars.
