Need to know how to reinstall Internet Explorer? Either you accidently uninstalled it or you had to uninstall it. In some cases Internet Explorer is consolidated in the operating system. Sometimes it can be removed but can't install it without installing the entire operating system. For example, Windows ME has Internet Explorer incorporated within the operating system so in order to get Internet Explorer back, you have to remove Windows ME and then reinstall the operating system again to get Internet Explorer.

Windows XP, Vista and 7

  1. Drivers and Software Disk. Your computer came with recovery disks that has all the software that you need. You will want to use either the operating system CD/DVD or the software and drivers disk CD\DVD. Not all manufactures set up their recovery disks in the same way so you will just have to figure it out which one has IE on it. Once you have located the correct CD /DVD, put it into the computer and you are ready to begin.
  2. Recovery Disk. Usually when you put in the disk in for the first time it will come up with a recovery wizard. You will want to select manual install or if it doesn't give you this option, you will want to exit out of the wizard. If you have manual install, select it and you will see all the different things you can install from this disk. Of course, you are looking for IE.  Once you have located Internet Explorer, click on it to install. It is pretty self explanatory. Just to be clear, if you don't have a manual install option, go to the disk drive and double click on the recovery disk icon; this will bring up all the files on the CD/DVD.
  3. Installing Internet Explorer. Once you locate the IE file, you will want to double click it to start the install wizard. Follow the steps on the screen, and you're on your way to having Internet Explorer once again!

Note:  If you don't have recovery disks then go to another computer that has internet access. Go to the Microsoft website and find the Internet Explorer you wish to install. Burn it to a disk so you can run the install on your computer.
