How To Remove A Power Steering Pump Belt
Your belt has just broke and you want to know how to remove a power steering pump belt? A power steering pump belts transfers the energy produced by the engine to the pump. Without the power steering pump belt operating properly the steering fluid would not be able to fully do its job. Over time, with regular us and wear and tear of your pump, the belt can stretch and easily break. This causes the steering wheel to be hard to steer while also making noise. Removing a power steering pump belt can be done easily and in a short amount of time.
To remove a power steering pump belt you will need:
- a wrench
- Locate the power steering pump bolts. There are two metal brackets that help secure the power steering pump. These brackets are secured with two bolts that hold the pump in place. One bolt is located on to of the pump and the other bolt is located on the bottom of the pump.
- Loosen the two bolts. Take a wrench and loosen the two bolts that support the power steering pump. Do no remove the bolts, just loosen them. The bolt on the bottom of the pump is inserted through a slot that allows you to adjust the tension of the belt without totally removing the bolts. To adjust the belt, just move the pump either toward or away from the engine.
- Remove the power steering pump. To eliminate the tension on the pump's belt push the pump toward the engine, and push the belt away from the pump's pulley. Pull the other end of belt away from the engine's bottom pulley. The power steering pump belt is completely released from the pump's pulley. Pull the belt up and over the fan blades. The belt is now removed from the power steering pump.
