Knowing how to remove scratches from glasses can make a big difference in your life. Whether it is the glass in the window or the ones that you trust to see, having scratches on your glass can be a nuisance. With a little work, you can remove scratches from your glasses and improve their appearance.

Things You Will Need

  1. The first step to remove scratches from glasses is to determine whether it can be removed. If the scratches on the glass appears to be confined to the surface, then you can probably minimize the scratches. If you can put your fingernail in the scratches, give up. You could work on the scratches until you pass out, and they will still remain.
  2. After assessing the scratches on the glasses, it's time to pull out the jeweler's rouge. Jeweler's rouge can be found in online sites such as Amazon and Widget Supply. It's a useful compound that can help to buff the scratches off your glasses. Apply the jeweler's rouge to the affected surface and get to buffing. If you have an electric buffer, you can use it. If not, a buffing pad will work just as well. Continue to buff the scratches until you no longer notice them.
  3. Once you have buffed the scratches, you will need an ammonia mixture to clean the surface. Being careful not to touch the ammonia, mix the cleaner with water. A solution comprised of two ounces of ammonia and two quarts of water should suffice. Using a sponge or soft cloth, clean the glasses with the solution. It may be necessary to wear gloves when using the ammonia mixture.
  4. After cleaning the glasses, dry them with a soft cloth. The scratches on your glasses should not be visible any longer. If they remain, you may have to seek professional assistance in removing the scratches.

It is important to remember when removing scratches from glasses that they may not completely disappear. The best you can hope for is minimizing the scratches so that they are barely noticeable.
