How To Remove Wall Paper
There are several methods of how to remove wall paper. But with all methods, patience is the key to a successful wall paper removal!
Steaming Method
- Rent a steamer. Rent a steamer from your local hardware store. Make sure that the steamer includes directions.
- Score the wall paper. Rub the scoring tool over the wall paper that you want to remove.
- Fill the steamer with water. Fill the steamer with water and let it sit for a few minutes to heat up.
- Steam the wall paper. Decide which area of the room you want to start with first, working in a gradual progression. Place the steamer's nozzle onto the wall. If you have scored the wall paper correctly, the wall paper should start to peel off.
- Scrape the remainder wall paper off. Take the scraper and use it to help peel the wall paper off. Some areas will need extra scraping or even extra steaming. Be careful not to nick the wall.
Stripping Method
- Cover surfaces. Cover floors or any exposed surfaces with a tarp or newspaper.
- Score the wall paper. Rub the scoring tool over the wall paper that you want to remove.
- Prepare wall paper stripping solution. Prepare the wall paper stripping solution as directed on the bottle of the solution.
- Apply the stripper. The chemical wall paper stripper can be applied by using brushes, sponges and absorbent cloths.
- Peel off the old wall paper. The stripping chemical works by dissolving the glue on the old wall paper. The wall paper can then be peeled from the wall.
With both removal techniques, make sure to follow directions carefully on any equipment used or chemicals used to prevent injury.
