How To Repair The Finish On Conga Drums

Are you wondering how to repair the finish on conga drums? From fixing a spot to refinishing the entire set of conga drums, there are a number of ways to repair the finish. Allow the conga drums to dry in a dry area away from debris.

To repair the finish with a natural wood grain appearance:

  • sand paper
  • wood finish oil
  • clear finish polyurethane
  1. Sand the conga drums. Sand all surfaces on the conga drum(s) including the affected area(s).  Make sure to clear the debris off the congo drums.
  2. Repair. Repair any cracks before applying a finish.
  3. Oil. Use wood finish oil to give a low luster sheen to the wood.
  4. Apply Polyeurtheane. Use 3-4 coats of a clear finish polyurethane to allow the natural beauty of the wood grain to show through. Allow the clear finish to dry completely between coats.

To repair the finish on conga drums with stain or paint:

  1. Sand the conga drums. Sand all surfaces on the conga drum(s) including the affected area(s). Make sure to clear the debris off the conga drums.
  2. Repair. Repair any cracks before applying a finish.
  3. Stain or paint the conga drums. Apply the stain or paint according to manufacturer's instructions. Make sure to allow for enough time to dry between coats.
  4. Apply Polyurethane. Use 3-4 coats of a clear finish polyurethane to protect the stain or paint just applied to the conga drums. Allow the clear finish to dry completely between coats.

Tip: To repair a small spot on the finish use nitro lacquer. Heat it up and apply it on the spot where the finish is damaged.
