How To Repair A Garage Door
Since the average garage door takes a beating on a regular basis, it is handy to know how to repair a garage door. A busted garage door can be a nuisance if you have any valuables or fancy car inside. However, normally a garage door is very easy to fix, which is why it can be attempted by anyone.
To repair a garage door, you will need
- Mallet
- Level
- Screwdriver
- Household cleaner
- Garage door lubricant
- One of the most common causes for a rolling garage door not functioning correctly is the metal tracks are bent. Inspect the metal tracks that the wheels for the garage door lie on. With everyday wear and tear, these can be accumulated with dirt. Simply use a mallet to bend these back into shape and test the garage door.
- Another problem is if the tracks don't lie perpendicular to the garage door. With use, these tracks may become bent at an angle. Use a level to determine which tracks aren't perpendicular to the garage door and use a screwdriver to make the screws for said tracks tighter.
- Using household cleaner, clean any residue debris from the garage door tracks. Over time, lubricant may dry and harden and cause the wheels to not move smoothly on the tracks. Once all debris has been removed, re-lubricate the garage door tracks again so they run smoothly.
- If your garage door swings instead of rolling upwards, you will need to check the screws on the mounting plate. If any screws have loosened, use a screwdriver to tighten them so that the garage door swings open properly.
