Figuring out how to report benefit fraud online can be difficult. Most agencies do not have an online reporting form. This is extremely unfortunate because it’s probably the easiest way for people to report suspected benefit fraud. To report benefit fraud online follow the steps below.

  1. Perform a simple search using a good search engine. Enter the term " site:.gov" before your search. This feature sorts out government agency and will only pull up results related to government offices. You might search for “report benefit fraud online in (enter your county or state). This can help locate the best place for you to report benefit fraud. Ideally your county will have an online reporting form. If they don't you may have to make a phone call.
  2. Sort through the results. Not every county has a way to report benefit fraud online. This can make it more difficult because you may have to call an actual office. If a local office doesn't come up, your state may have an online reporting form.
  3. If your county doesn’t have a way to report online, perform the same search, but this time enter your state. This might help you find a way to report benefit fraud online. Often local government benefit offices have very outdated websites. Searching by state may be a lot more successful.
  4. Once you have located an online reporting form, you will need to provide a statement. In this statement you will be asked about what proof you have, who is doing the alleged benefit fraud, and your personal information. You will have the option to remain anonymous. The state office will begin an investigation based on the information. You may be asked to mail the proof into your local office.
