Sometimes, you will find it necessary to learn how to reset an iPod Touch. Unfortunately, electronic devices are not perfect and will run into problems, including being unresponsive and freezing up altogether. When this occurs, you will want to know how to reset your device so that it responds properly once again.

You will need:

  • iPod Touch
  • USB cable
  1. Disconnect your device. If you have your iPod Touch connected to your computer, such as when you are synchronizing it, and it suddenly goes into freeze mode, disconnect it. Detach the USB cable from the device so that it is no longer connected to your computer. This is an important step when you are resetting an iPod Touch.
  2. Press the necessary buttons. Press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button and then slide the slider when it appears on the screen. This will turn off your device. Hold these buttons for about 15 seconds and wait until you see the Apple logo appear on the display. This is a necessary precursor to resetting an iPod Touch.
  3. Reconnect your device. Use the USB cable to connect your iPod Touch to your computer again. Allow iTunes to recognize that it is connected, then click on the tab that features your device's name to go to the sync window.
  4. Click the "Restore" button. In the iTunes sync window, you will see a button that says "Restore factory settings." Click on this button to effectively reset your iPod Touch. Unfortunately, this will wipe out every item you have on your device, but you can always re-sync from iTunes.
