Knowing where and how to retire in Mexico has been a challenge for many people recently. According to ABC News, it seems as if Mexico is the new hot spot for retirees. The temperatures and lower living costs, not to mention the culture, make Mexico one of the most popular places to retire. Everything from real estate to healthcare costs is much lower in Mexico. Even food is a lot less at the grocery stores in Mexico. There are some who are enjoying retirement in Mexico among the locals, while others want to live in one of the retirement communities. Here are some ways to begin that transition towards becoming a Mexican resident:

  1. Knowing where to buy is important because of the restriction zone in Mexico for foreigners . The restricted purchasing zone is any land 100 kilometers away from the border and 50 kilometers away from the beach.
  2. Be prepared for living expenses. Even though they are much lower than in the U.S., it is still good to know what to expect. Many Americans live comfortably in Mexico on less than $1,500 a month.
  3. Culture shock can be one of the biggest surprises when moving to Mexico. Some love it and some have a hard time adjusting. It is recommended that anyone considering moving to Mexico take a couple trips there beforehand to make sure the culture is not too much of a drastic change.
  4. Knowing the laws is very important if you want to retire in Mexico. When moving from one country to another, it is important to learn the law and know how the government is run.
  5. Overcoming the language barrier is also important. It is recommended to learn some Spanish before making the move to Mexico.
  6. Finally, the most important part of retiring in Mexico is the paperwork. According to Mexico Real Estate Investment, it is important to understand all of the paperwork, such as required immigration forms, before making a permanent move.

Mexico is already considered home to thousands of American veterans who are already living in Mexico. The year-round warm temperatures make retiring in Mexico a great option for many people. The affordable cost of living and relaxed way of life is also a great incentive for retirees considering moving to Mexico. Knowing the best way to retire to Mexico will make the decision easier and the transition smoother.
